Position Summary
The Visual Arts Department at Bowdoin College invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible visiting assistant professor position in photography for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The appointment is for one year and begins July 1, 2024.
The teaching load is two courses per semester, one of which will be an analogue introductory class.
We seek applicants whose expertise in photography is grounded in studio practice, scholarship, and teaching.
The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a strong foundation in perceptual, formal, and critical skills within a liberal arts context and to engage students in the social and theoretical dimensions of contemporary photographic practice.
Candidates must have an MFA with two-years full-time teaching experience in higher education or equivalent and a demonstrated record of professional artistic achievement.
Successful candidates will be able to articulate the significance of the visual arts within the liberal arts curriculum and have a desire to contribute to the life of a small, collaborative department.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education and to inclusive excellence in teaching.
